The Federal Government has commenced construction of a 250-unit Renewed Hope Civil Service Estate at Dukpa, Gwagwalada, Abuja, as part of efforts to improve access to decent and affordable housing for federal civil servants.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) and other stakeholders in attendance.
The estate comprises 250 units of two- and three-bedroom bungalows and is being developed through a partnership between the OHCSF and the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, described the project as an intervention aimed at improving the welfare of civil servants and recognising their contribution to national development.
He charged the contractors, consultants and supervising teams to ensure that the houses are delivered to the required standards and within the stipulated timeframe.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, also described the project as a significant step towards improving homeownership opportunities for federal civil servants.
She disclosed that the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation currently has 305 housing units provided to civil servants under the Federal Integrated Staff Housing Programme.
Walson-Jack also encouraged eligible federal civil servants to take advantage of the Federal Government’s annual N10 billion housing loan facility provided through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FMBN, Shehu Usman Osidi, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting the project through accessible and affordable mortgage financing for eligible beneficiaries.
Osidi said the delivery of housing must be complemented by affordable financing to enable beneficiaries to achieve sustainable homeownership.
The Federal Government has said the Renewed Hope Housing Programme is aimed at expanding access to affordable housing and improving homeownership opportunities for Nigerians.
The Dukpa estate is expected to provide federal civil servants with access to homeownership while supporting the government’s broader housing delivery programme.
