The Federal Government has announced the full automation of academic certificate evaluation and authentication, a move that will eliminate the need for applicants to visit the Federal Ministry of Education physically.
The development was announced by the Ministry of Education in a statement issued on Monday, September 8, 2026.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, described the initiative as a major step towards the Federal Government’s digital transformation agenda and an important part of efforts to improve public service delivery.
According to the Minister, the new system will allow applicants to complete the entire process of evaluating and authenticating their academic credentials online.
Applicants seeking the service will no longer be required to make physical visits to the Ministry, as the process can now be carried out through a dedicated digital platform.
Alausa said the reform was designed to reduce bureaucratic delays, speed up the processing of applications and improve transparency in the delivery of services.
“The initiative is a major step in the Federal Government’s digital transformation agenda and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” the Minister said.
The new system is also expected to provide greater convenience for Nigerians and other applicants within and outside the country who require official evaluation or authentication of academic qualifications.
The Federal Ministry of Education said the digital platform would make the process more accessible while helping to reduce some of the challenges associated with manual processing and physical documentation.
Beyond convenience, the Minister said the initiative would strengthen the integrity and credibility of Nigeria’s academic certification system.
He explained that the platform would provide institutions, employers and other relevant stakeholders with a more structured and reliable process for verifying academic qualifications.
According to him, the use of technology in credential evaluation and authentication would also improve confidence in Nigeria’s education system and help ensure that qualifications presented for official and professional purposes can be properly verified.
“The initiative will strengthen the integrity and credibility of Nigeria’s academic certification system while enabling institutions, employers and other stakeholders to verify qualifications through a more structured and reliable process,” Alausa said.
The Minister reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Ministry of Education to deploying technology to modernise education governance and improve the efficiency of its institutions.
He said the Ministry would continue to pursue reforms aimed at delivering services that are more accessible and responsive to the needs of citizens.
The automation of certificate verification forms part of the wider effort by the Federal Government to expand the use of digital technology across public institutions and reduce administrative bottlenecks.
The Ministry urged applicants seeking academic credential evaluation and authentication to use the official online platform provided for the service.
With the new arrangement, applicants can access the credential evaluation and authentication system through the Ministry’s dedicated portal, while enquiries can also be directed to the appropriate Ministry channel.
The reform is expected to ease the burden on applicants who previously had to visit the Ministry in person, while improving the speed, transparency and overall efficiency of the academic certificate verification process.
The Ministry said the initiative reflects its commitment to building a modern education administration system driven by technology and focused on delivering better services to Nigerians.
