The Federal Government has approved the construction of a N1 trillion Metropolitan Rail Service for Kano State, a major infrastructure project aimed at transforming urban transportation and boosting economic activities in the commercial nerve center of the North.

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, disclosed the development while addressing the state contingent to the 2025 National Qur’anic Recitation Competition held in Borno State.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Wednesday, the Governor explained that the rail project is a direct dividend of his administration’s decision to realign politically with the Federal Government under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor Yusuf stated that the Metropolitan Rail Service will provide a modern, efficient, and affordable mass transit system connecting key districts within the metropolis, easing traffic congestion and stimulating trade.

“This is a landmark intervention that will significantly improve the quality of life of our people and reposition Kano as a major transportation hub in Northern Nigeria,” the Governor said.

He assured residents that the state government would work closely with relevant federal agencies to ensure the smooth and transparent implementation of the project. Governor Yusuf thanked the Federal Government for the initiative and reaffirmed his commitment to complementing federal efforts with supportive state policies.
