The Federal Government has approved 26 tradepreneur courses under a reformed technical education curriculum for tertiary institutions across the country.
The approval was announced in a statement signed by Boriewo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Education, on Thursday.
According to the ministry, the curriculum was unveiled in Abuja by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa (CON), alongside the Minister of State for Education, Professor Sulaiman Sa’id Ahmad.
Dr. Alausa said the reform was aimed at reducing curriculum overload, aligning skills training with industry demands, and equipping Nigerian youths with globally competitive knowledge to drive economic growth.
“This is a landmark reform of technical education designed to modernise technical colleges and prepare young Nigerians for the jobs of tomorrow,” the minister said.
The courses include Electronic Systems Maintenance Craft, Fashion Design and Garment Making, Fish Farming (Aquaculture), Furniture Making and Upholstery, Leather Works, Livestock Farming and Animal Husbandry, Networking and System Security with Satellite and TV Antenna Installation, and Mechanised Agriculture also known as Smart Agriculture.
Others are Autobody Works, Auto-Electrical Wiring, Automobile CNG Conversion and Maintenance, Automobile Mechanics, Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology, Brick Laying, Block Laying and Concreting, Catering Craft Practice, Computer Hardware and GSM Repair, Creative Media with emphasis on Digital Media Production, as well as Motorcycle and Tricycle Repairs.
The list also features Plumbing and Pipe Fitting, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning, Social Media Content Creation and Management, Painting, Decoration and Interior Finishes, Solar PV Installation and Maintenance, Welding and Fabrication, Woodwork, Carpentry and Joinery, together with Tiling and Cladding involving Decorative Stonework and Floor Cover
