Ahead of the senatorial primaries holding today, son of the former Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Olufemi Hafeez Oyetola, has officially withdrawn from the Osun Central Senatorial district race.
The announcement was made public through an official letter dated May 18, 2026, addressed to the APC State Chairman in Osun State, as well as the Osun Central Senatorial leadership and the party’s National Assembly Primary Election Committee.
In the statement, Oyetola expressed profound gratitude to his supporters, particularly the vibrant youth demographic and local stakeholders who actively backed his campaign and voluntarily purchased his nomination form.
He characterized their unwavering support and desire to see a new generation contribute to governance as one of the greatest honors of his political journey.
Addressing the rationale behind his sudden exit, Oyetola disclosed that the decision followed extensive consultations and structural interventions from the highest echelons of the party leadership.
He emphasized that stepping down was a necessary sacrifice made in the collective interest of the APC’s unity, internal stability, and ultimate success at the polls.
“As loyal party men and women, we must always place the collective interest of the party above personal ambition,” Oyetola stated, urging his followers and political associates to remain calm, disciplined, and united behind the party’s leadership.
Despite pulling out of the senatorial contest, the change advocate affirmed his continued, full commitment to the ideals of the APC.
He pledged to continue working tirelessly alongside party leaders and youth structures to secure victories for all APC candidates in the forthcoming general elections.
