FCT Police tighten security, order raid on criminal hideouts

7 Oct 2025

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has ordered all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to immediately intensify patrols and carry out coordinated raids on all identified and suspected criminal hideouts across Abuja, including uncompleted and abandoned buildings.

The directive was issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, in a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh.

According to the statement, the order takes immediate effect as part of proactive security measures to prevent criminal elements from using abandoned or ongoing construction sites as shelters for illicit activities.

“CP Ajao has directed that DPOs across the territory must strengthen surveillance operations, conduct routine patrols and ensure that all uncompleted or abandoned buildings are cleared of suspicious persons,” the statement read.

The Command also called on all property developers within the FCT to report to the nearest police division for the documentation and profiling of security personnel, artisans, and labourers working or residing at active construction sites before the end of October 2025.

“DPOs must ensure that no unidentified person is found loitering or staying on construction sites after 6:00 p.m.,” Adeh added.

The Commissioner further reiterated that scavenging activities, popularly known as “Baban Bola”, remain strictly prohibited within the FCT.

Residents have been urged to promptly report any scavengers or suspicious persons sighted in their neighbourhoods to the nearest police formation or through the command’s emergency contact lines.
