The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed the Abuja office of Contact Tele-performance Company (TLS), a visa support service provider, over alleged violations of consumer rights and the assault of federal operatives.
The enforcement action, led by Mrs Boladale Adeyinka, Director of Surveillance and Investigations at the FCCPC, followed a series of complaints and a reported altercation in which TLS agents allegedly assaulted FCCPC staff and police officers during an official visit.
According to the Commission, investigations into TLS began in March 2025 after multiple reports were received from consumers claiming that the company failed to deliver services they had paid for.
On March 25, 2025, the Commission issued a formal summons to TLS as part of its complaint resolution process. However, Mrs Adeyinka disclosed that company officials refused to accept the notice and allegedly assaulted both FCCPC operatives and police personnel on duty.
Following this, the Executive Vice Chairman of the FCCPC, Mr Tunji Bello, invoked Section 18(1)(f) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, authorising the sealing of the TLS premises.
Mrs Adeyinka said the Commission has reasonable grounds to believe that certain services offered by TLS are detrimental to consumer welfare. As a result, the company’s operations have been suspended pending further investigation.
The FCCPC has summoned senior TLS officials, including the country manager and centre manager, to appear before the Commission at 2:00 PM on Friday, 20 June 2025, to respond to the allegations.
She warned that failure to comply with the summons could attract penalties as prescribed under Section 33(3) of the FCCPC Act, which provides for up to three years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to ₦20 million, or both. Additionally, obstruction of the Commission’s proceedings may attract similar sanctions under Section 33(4).
The Commission reiterated its commitment to upholding consumer rights and called on affected customers to submit evidence of unresolved service issues to support the ongoing inquiry.
The sealing of the TLS office stands as a clear message to service providers that the FCCPC will act firmly against violations of consumer protection laws.
