Family alleges irregularities in death of NEPL staff

The family of Mr. Henry Tobins, a senior staff member of NNPC Exploration and Production Ltd. (NEPL), has called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate his death, which occurred on September 27, 2023, while he was on an official assignment.

The family stated that NEPL initially informed them that Tobins had drowned and that his body was being kept in a morgue in Egbema. However, they alleged that they later discovered the body in an uncompleted building.

According to the family, a petition was submitted to the Rivers State Commissioner of Police on October 9, 2023, which led to an autopsy conducted in the presence of policeofficers, NEPL officials, and family members.

The autopsy report reportedly suggested that the death was not accidental.

The family further alleged that the company has failed to cooperate fully with police investigations, including ignoring official summons to present staff members linked to the incident.

They also claimed that an anonymous individual confessed to involvement in the incident prior to the autopsy, and a recording of the confession has been handed over to the police.

While NEPL subsequently offered ₦14 million to cover burial expenses, the family emphasized that their primary concern remains securing justice and accountability.
