Chairperson of the African Petroleum Regulators Forum (AFRIPERF), Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, has called for greater unity and collaboration among African regulators to strengthen the continent’s energy sector.
Eyesan made the call during her maiden Executive Committee meeting of AFRIPERF, held virtually, where she outlined her vision for building stronger institutions and promoting coordinated regulatory action across Africa.
She emphasised that the future of Africa’s petroleum industry would depend largely on collective efforts rather than isolated national approaches.
According to her, the continent’s energy challenges, including investment gaps and pressures from the global energy transition, require regulators to move beyond institutional and national boundaries.
“We must work collaboratively toward harmonising regulatory frameworks and advancing sustainable development across the African continent. The future of Africa’s energy sector depends on our ability to align, integrate and act with purpose,” she said.
Eyesan, who also serves as the Commission Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), acknowledged the contributions of her predecessor, Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, and member states in establishing a strong foundation for the forum.
She noted that AFRIPERF provides a strategic platform for regulators to share knowledge, align policies, and drive reforms that will enhance efficiency and sustainability across the sector.
The meeting marked a significant step in strengthening cooperation among African petroleum regulators, with a renewed focus on building a more integrated and resilient energy framework for the continent.
