Dangote Group has entered a strategic partnership with Honeywell International Inc. to drive the next phase of growth at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, setting the stage for one of the most ambitious energy-sector expansions on the continent.
The collaboration will introduce advanced technologies and specialized services intended to lift the refinery’s processing capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2028. According to the company, this represents a major step in its long-term vision to develop what is projected to become the world’s largest petroleum refining complex.
Under the agreement, Honeywell will supply catalysts, process technologies, and equipment designed to enable the refinery to handle a wider range of crude grades efficiently, while also strengthening product quality and operational reliability. The company, a Fortune 100 global industrial and technology leader, provides solutions spanning aviation, automotive, industrial automation, and advanced materials.
Honeywell’s UOP division has worked with Dangote since 2017, supporting operations through proprietary refining systems, catalyst regeneration units, high-performance column trays, and heat exchanger technologies.
The partnership extends into Dangote Group’s expanding petrochemical operations. The company confirmed that it is scaling polypropylene production capacity to 2.4 million metric tonnes per year, using Honeywell’s Oleflex technology. Polypropylene remains a critical industrial material with applications in packaging, manufacturing, and the automotive sector.
Alongside refinery and petrochemical growth, Dangote Group is advancing the next stage of its fertiliser investment programme in Nigeria.
The company reported that urea production capacity will rise from 3 million metric tonnes to 9 million metric tonnes annually. The current plant operates two trains of 1.5 million metric tonnes each, and the planned expansion will add four additional trains to meet rising demand for high-quality fertiliser across Africa and international markets.
