Former Chairman of Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, Barrister Ojo Williams, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Otun-Owa of Imesi-ile announced his resignation in a letter dated June 3, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of APC Ward 06, Imesi-Ile, said his decision followed careful reflection and critical evaluation of the current realities within the party.
Williams stated that continued membership of the APC could no longer be sustained in good conscience, declaring that he was withdrawing his membership and dissociating himself from all activities, responsibilities and affiliations connected to the party.
He said, “I write to formally tender my resignation as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). After careful reflection and critical evaluation of the current realities within the party, I have come to the conclusion that my continued membership can no longer be sustained in good conscience.
“Consequently, I, Otunba S.L. Ojo-Williams, hereby withdraw my membership and disassociate myself from all activities, responsibilities and affiliations connected with the All Progressives Congress (APC),” he added.
However, in his write up after his resignation, Williams revealed that the disqualification of Senator Iyiola Omisore and political imbalance were behind his decision to quit the party.
He said he found it increasingly difficult to reconcile his belief in due process, fairness and internal democracy with the events surrounding Omisore’s exclusion.
According to the statement, “the circumstances surrounding the disqualification of Otunba Iyiola Omisore represented a turning point for me. As a legal practitioner and a firm believer in due process, fairness, and internal democracy, I found it increasingly difficult to reconcile myself with the manner in which that situation was handled. From that moment, I became emotionally and spiritually detached from the activities of the party.
“Throughout my political life, I have remained guided by unwavering principles. I believe strongly in democracy, inclusiveness, fairness, equity, justice, and equal opportunities for all. Unfortunately, developments within the APC, particularly in Obokun Local Government and the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, have increasingly raised serious concerns that I can no longer ignore.
“One of the major issues has been the persistent imbalance in political representation and opportunities within our constituency. Certain sections of the constituency have continually found themselves disadvantaged in accessing key elective positions. These concerns were repeatedly brought to the attention of party leaders with the hope that corrective measures would be taken to promote inclusiveness, fairness, and political balance. Regrettably, those concerns did not receive the necessary attention.
“Today, as a mature leader who has devoted decades to public service and democratic advancement, I believe it is my responsibility to make decisions guided by conscience, conviction, and the collective interest of the people. Having carefully assessed the current political landscape, I am convinced that my continued membership of the APC no longer aligns with my democratic values and aspirations for our people.
“Consequently, I have resolved to seek another political platform through which I can continue to contribute meaningfully to the development of Osun State and the welfare of our people.
“I remain grateful to all party members, supporters, friends, associates, and leaders with whom I have worked over the years. I harbour no bitterness toward anyone. My decision is driven solely by principle and my desire to continue serving society in a manner consistent with my beliefs and convictions,” he said.
