Ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State, former Governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and other prominent leaders of the Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have officially endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.
The endorsement took place on Sunday at the WOCDIF Event Centre in Osogbo. Alongside Prince Oyinlola, key political figures who declared their support for the APC candidate included former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Alhaji Fatai Akinbade and former PDP National Vice Chairman (South-West) Alhaji Tajudeen Oladipo.
Reading the declaration address on behalf of the stakeholders, Oyinlola explained that although they worked tirelessly to bring the current PDP administration into power, governance in the state had degenerated due to a severe lack of inclusiveness.
He emphasized that while party loyalty remains important, the overall progress and future of Osun State must take precedence.
Clarifying their political stance, Oyinlola stated that they remain bonafide members of the PDP and are not defecting, but are exercising their conscience to steer the state in a better direction.
He subsequently urged Oyebamiji to prioritize the welfare of the citizenry and run an all-inclusive government if elected.
In response, Oyebamiji expressed gratitude to Oyinlola and the PDP leaders for their endorsement, assuring them that public opinion would form the bedrock of his administration.
He criticized the current state government for undermining development through nepotism and pledged to correct these anomalies.
Oyebamiji also debunked rigging allegations raised by the Accord Party and its candidate, expressing confidence that his extensive consultations across all local government areas would translate into victory at the polls.
Also speaking at the event, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, urged residents to turn out en masse to vote for the APC candidate, arguing that Osun State has suffered underdevelopment under the current administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
