An estate agent, Kehinde Adewumi, was on Wednesday docked in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court Ibadan, over alleged accommodation fraud.
Adewumi, 31, is facing a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences and theft.
He, however pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Olagoke Adegbenro told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 23, at about 4.00p.m, at Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
Adegbenro alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N145,000 from Mrs Chidiebere Ejike on the pretext of providing a room apartment for her.
He alleged that the defendant also obtained the sum of N150,000 from Mrs Nneka Nwokemodo, under the guise of securing a room apartment for her.
He said the defendant failed to secure the accommodation for the complainants, but converted the money to his personal use.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Olasinmibo Sanusi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 and two sureties in like sum.
Sanusi, among other terms, held that both sureties must be blood relations to the defendant, while one must bear same surname with the defendant.
She adjourned the case until June 16, for further hearing.
