Equities market’s positive momentum persists as investors gain N1.8trn in one week

The Nigerian equities market maintained its upward trajectory in the just-concluded trading week, adding ₦1.8 trillion to investors’ wealth as all five sessions closed in positive territory.

Market capitalisation rose to ₦85.055 trillion from ₦83.8241 trillion recorded the previous week, while the All-Share Index (ASI) appreciated by 2.18 per cent to close at 134,452.93 points, up from 131,585.66 points.

Trading opened on Monday, 21 July 2025, with investors gaining ₦152.80 billion. The rally continued on Tuesday with a further ₦395.35 billion in profits and extended into Wednesday with ₦66.87 billion added. Thursday saw another strong performance as investors earned ₦406.49 billion, and the week ended on Friday with a robust ₦792.59 billion gain.

A total of 3.691 billion shares worth ₦112.261 billion exchanged hands in 138,250 deals during the week, compared with 17.498 billion shares valued at ₦500.762 billion traded in 142,082 deals the previous week.

The Financial Services Industry led by volume, trading 2.127 billion shares worth ₦47.298 billion in 57,121 deals, accounting for 57.62 per cent of total equity turnover volume and 42.13 per cent of value. 

The Agriculture Industry followed with 273.694 million shares worth ₦12.872 billion in 11,284 deals, while the Oil and Gas Industry placed third with 255.144 million shares worth ₦11.808 billion in 10,706 deals.

Access Holdings Plc, United Bank for Africa Plc, and Japaul Gold & Ventures Plc were the top three traded equities by volume, with 745.391 million shares worth ₦19.457 billion changing hands in 15,720 deals. These accounted for 20.19 per cent of turnover volume and 17.33 per cent of value.

Sixty equities appreciated in price, up from forty-nine in the prior week. Forty-three equities declined, fewer than the fifty-four recorded previously, while forty-four remained unchanged.

The Initiates Plc recorded the largest percentage gain of the week, rising 60.82 per cent. Academy Press Plc followed with a 33.00 per cent increase, and Nigerian Enamelware Plc advanced 32.68 per cent.

Secure Electronic Technology Plc posted the steepest decline, dropping 23.97 per cent, followed by Omatek Ventures Plc, which also fell by 23.97 per cent. Meyer Plc lost 21.43 per cent of its share value.
