Brighton & Hove Albion defeated English Premier League Champions Arsenal 3-0 at the south coast on Saturday, while Tottenham Hotspur fell 3-2 at home to Aston villa.
Brighton brought an end to Arsenal’s perfect start to the season with a spectacular performance that saw them 2-0 up after the first 45 minutes.
Wearing a special blue-shirted kit to mark their 125th anniversary, Brighton took the lead in the 31st minute when Gross beat Raya with a low shot that went off the right.
The hosts doubled their lead through Kostoulas’s brilliant finish and Andres scored the third in the second half to put the game beyond Arsenal.
Brighton, who have now scored 16 goals so far in the league, have 10 points while Arsenal remain on 12 points; same as Manchester City.
Manchester City can move three points off Arsenal if they beat Sunderland on Sunday.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said his team did not respect the game in their lost against Brighton.
“A really disappointing result and performance. Brighton were another gear up from us. We were extremely poor technically and not respecting the game,” Arteta said.
Tottenham Hotspur fell deeper into trouble at home on Saturday after losing 3-2 to Aston villa, their third league defeat of the season.
Aston villa,who were also looking for their first will win of the season, took the lead in the first half stoppage time through Johan Manzambi’s strike.
Villa got their second goal in the 67th when former Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson finished clinically. Emi Beundia scored the visitors’s third goal with a rocket 11 minutes from time.
Goals from Conor Gallagher and Jan Paul could not help Tottenham stage a comeback, leaving them with 2 points after five games.
Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi said the defeat was disappointing.
“Today I was very disappointed, very sad, very frustrated for the performance. Because we can’t lose this game in this way, absolutely,” De Zerbi said.
In other results, Everton remain unbeaten as Thierno Barry’s goal gave them all three points against Ipswich.
Newcastle United defeated Hull City 2-1, ending the newly promoted side’s unbeaten run.
