Steve Ukwueni, President-General, Enyimba Supporters Club of Aba, has pledged the group’s continued support for the club, irrespective of its performance.
Ukwueni made the pledge in an interview with the news reporters in Aba on Saturday, saying the supporters would continue to rally round the club in both good and difficult times.
He said the supporters were ready for the new season and would increase their support to help the club return to its best.
“We are ready for the new season and this time, our support will be massive because we want Enyimba to be back to the best,” he said.
Ukwueni expressed disappointment over Enyimba’s 1-2 away loss to Niger Tornadoes of Minna in its opening match of the season.
He, however, expressed optimism that the team would bounce back when it hosts Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan.
The newsmen report that the match between Enyimba and Shooting Stars has been postponed due to the Ibadan-based club’s continental engagement.
Ukwueni said it was too early to judge the team, noting that some clubs usually made strong starts while others improved as the season progressed.
“It is still early to judge a club, as some teams are early starters while others start a little late, so Enyimba FC will come good this season.
“Our first match was an away match and many things may have come into play, but we have put that behind us,” he said.
He urged the club’s management to ensure that the players remained disciplined and focused on the tasks ahead.
Ukwueni also expressed regret over Enyimba’s absence from the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, but expressed optimism that the new season would provide an opportunity for the club to return to continental football.
He called on Enyimba supporters and other lovers of the club to turn out in large numbers at the stadium whenever the team played at home.
