Chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area (LGA) in Enugu State, Dr Eric Odo, says the council has enrolled 1,000 indigent residents into the Enugu State Universal Health Insurance Scheme.
Odo disclosed this on Thursday when a delegation from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), visited the council’s headquarters in Ogbede.
The chairman explained that the enrolment aimed to ensure the less privileged had access to quality healthcare, adding that proactive leadership demanded bold, people-oriented decisions to uplift communities.
He noted that his leadership was driven by empathy and courage, with a firm commitment to challenging outdated systems and improving lives in every corner of Igbo-Etiti LGA.
“I was elected with a clear mandate to transform Igbo-Etiti and redefine its past.
“We are committed to inclusive governance and sustainable development,” Odo said.
He said his administration’s open-door policy ensured all residents, regardless of education or income, felt included, heard, and valued in decision-making and development efforts within the local government.
The council boss assured the visiting medical professionals that he remained focused on meeting infrastructure needs and boosting the local economy to contribute meaningfully to Enugu State’s Gross Domestic Product.
Earlier, Dr Uchenna Okechi, Head of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UNTH, congratulated Odo on his election, describing him as a visionary leader with grassroots connection.
Okechi urged the chairman to carry the department along in the governance of the LGA and pledged their continuous assistance, collaboration, and prayers for the council’s success.
