The Labour Correspondents Association of Nigeria (LACAN) has described the death of Daily Independent Labour and Business Editor, Mr Sylvester Enoghase, as a huge loss to labour journalism.

This was contained in a condolence letter addressed to the Managing Director, Daily Independent Newspapers and jointly signed by LACAN Chairman, Mr Patrick Abulu, and Secretary, Mr Adeniyi Bakare, on Thursday in Abuja.

The association said Enoghase’s demise had created a vacuum in labour reporting, noting that his contributions to workers’ advocacy and industrial relations reportage would be greatly missed across the country.

LACAN expressed deep sadness over the sudden and shocking death of the veteran journalist, who reportedly died at his residence in Lagos, describing the development as painful and unfortunate.

The association described Enoghase as an exceptional editor whose analytical skills enriched journalism practice and contributed significantly to public understanding of labour, business and economic issues.

“Mr Enoghase was an exceptional editor with a promising future, whose brilliant analytical skills illuminated the pages of your newspaper,” the association said in the letter.

It added that the late editor distinguished himself as a committed advocate for workers’ welfare and remained a dependable ally of the Nigerian labour movement throughout his career.

“He was passionate about amplifying the voices and highlighting the plights of ordinary Nigerian workers. His absence will leave a massive void in labour journalism across the nation.”

LACAN noted that Enoghase’s dedication, professionalism and commitment to balanced reporting earned him the respect of colleagues, labour leaders and stakeholders across various sectors of the economy.

The association prayed for God’s comfort and strength for the deceased’s family, friends and colleagues, while urging them to remain steadfast during this difficult period of mourning.

Similarly, the association, in a separate letter, conveyed its condolences to the Chairman and members of the Labour Writers Association of Nigeria (LAWAN) over the painful passing of its former chairman, Enoghase.

It prayed that God would grant members of LAWAN, the deceased’s family and associates the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and grant his soul eternal rest.
