The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari has fixed July 10 for the turbaning of the new Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Muhammad-Bashir Dasuki.
A statement by the Emir’s Spokesman, Dr Abdulazeez Arowona, on Monday, in Ilorin, said that the turbaning of 13th substantive Chief Imam of the Ilorin Emirate would hold at the palace.
The Newsmen recalled that Muhammad-Bashir Dasuki was appointed Chief Imam on June 10, and delivered his inaugural Jumu’ah Khutbah on June 19.
“The new Chief Imam is an alumnus of Darul Kitab Wa Sunnah College of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin, and also attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
“Imam Dasuki also attended Al-Azhar University, Cairo; and Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin.
“He succeeds the late Alhaji Muhammad-Bashir Imam Soliu, the 12th Chief Imam of Ilorin, who died on Jan. 19, after a brief illness,” Arowona said.
The Emir’s spokesman said that prior to his appointment, the new Chief Imam was the founder and proprietor of Darul Bisharah Arabic and Islamic Studies, Airport Road, Egbejila, Ilorin.
He further said that the new Chief Imam served as the Imam leading daily and weekly Jumu’ah prayers at Afusat Oloriegbe Memorial Mosque, Oko-Olowo, Ilorin, among other roles.
Arowona quoted the Emir as praying that Almighty Allah will grant Imam Dasuki long life and a divinely guided, prosperous tenure on the stool of Imamship.
Alhaji Sulu-Gambari urged the entire Muslim Ummah to attend the historic event.
