The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has congratulated the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of the Islamic New Year, 1st Muharram, 1448 A.H.

The Monarch said the migration of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Madinah laid the foundation for justice, brotherhood, and community development, noting that these values remain important for achieving peace and stability across the world.

Alhaji Sulu-Gambari made the remarks in a goodwill message issued on Tuesday through his spokesman, Abdulazeez Arowona. He described the Hijrah as a lasting reminder of sacrifice, perseverance, and faith in Allah’s divine plan.

According to him, the significance of Hijrah teaches that difficult times are temporary and encourages Muslims to strengthen their commitment to piety, peaceful coexistence, and service to humanity.

The Emir urged Nigerians to use the new Islamic year as an opportunity to pray for peace, unity, and economic prosperity. He also called on religious and political leaders to avoid divisive statements that could create tension in society and instead promote messages that foster national unity.

He commended Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for supporting religious harmony in the state and advised young people to emulate the discipline, courage, and good character of the early Muslims by staying away from violence, drug abuse, and other social vices.

Alhaji Sulu-Gambari also offered prayers for the late Prof. Yusuf Lanre Badmos, praising his contributions to the National Hijrah Organisation, Kwara State Chapter, and his efforts in promoting Islamic values.

The Emir prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the deceased and wished Muslims good health, abundant blessings, and acceptance of their acts of worship in the new year.
