The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has informed customers of a planned 10-hour suspension of its prepaid payment services scheduled for Tuesday, 22 April 2025.
In a statement released on Thursday in Lagos, the company’s General Manager of Corporate Communications, Mr Babatunde Lasaki, confirmed that the temporary interruption would occur between 2:00 p.m. and 11:59 p.m.
Lasaki explained that the disruption is due to scheduled system maintenance and an upgrade designed to improve operational efficiency and enhance the overall customer experience.
He noted that postpaid customers would still be able to complete transactions via approved payment platforms during this period.
He also clarified that electricity supply would not be affected. However, prepaid customers are advised to top up their meters in advance to avoid any inconvenience.
“We regret any disruption this may cause. The upgrade is a necessary step in our efforts to deliver a more reliable and seamless service to our customers,” Lasaki said.
He added that once the system enhancement is complete, users can expect a number of improvements. These include access to historical payment and consumption records, a more streamlined and secure payment system, and an intuitive self-service portal for customer support and issue resolution. The postpaid bill format will also be redesigned for better clarity and user-friendliness.
EKEDC’s customer service team will remain available throughout the downtime to assist with any issues, he added.
Lasaki encouraged customers to reach out only through official communication channels for any support needs. These include the company’s hotlines: 07080671170 or 07001235666, email: customercare@ekedp.com, or social media accounts—Facebook: Eko Electricity; X (formerly Twitter): @ekedp; Instagram: @ekedpng. The official website is www.ekedp.com.
He advised customers against contacting individuals within the company and to rely solely on the verified customer service outlets.
Lasaki reaffirmed EKEDC’s commitment to leading in technological innovation, quality of service, and customer satisfaction. He noted that the company continues to rank among the top-performing distribution companies in the country, as recognised by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
