Ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed its specialised and tactical teams to beef up security across the state and its environs before, during and after the Sallah celebration.
This followed a strategic management briefing by the State Commandant, Joachin Okafor, held at the command’s headquarters.
Commandant Joachin Okafor directed the immediate deployment of component units and tactical squads to identified black spots and likely flashpoints across the state. These include, but are not limited to, recreational centres, Eid prayer grounds, major road intersections, markets, and motor parks.
The State Commandant also reiterated the corps’ commitment to the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure. Consequently, he directed the command’s anti-vandal unit to intensify patrols and surveillance across key installations, such as telecommunications facilities, power infrastructure, and oil and gas pipelines.
The State Commandant further reassured residents of the readiness of the corps and sister security agencies to prioritise the protection of lives and property, as well as to forestall any breakdown of law and order before, during and after the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Commandant Joachin Okafor seized the opportunity to warn that the command will decisively deal with criminal elements trying to take advantage of the festive period to carry out their nefarious activities.
The State Commandant appealed to members of the public to report any suspicious activity around their neighbourhood to the nearest security post for prompt response and containment.
The State Commandant also used the occasion to felicitate with the Muslim Ummah, wishing them a fulfilling 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration and urging them to celebrate within the ambit of the law.
