Forty individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud have been arrested by operatives of the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during a coordinated operation in Niger State.
The arrests, carried out in Bida and Minna, followed actionable intelligence linking the suspects to various cybercrime activities, according to a statement issued by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.
During the sting operation, a wide range of items were seized. These include three vehicles, eight power-generating sets, a Hisense air conditioning unit, two voltage stabilisers, ten motorcycles, eight laptops, four Bluetooth speakers, and 60 Android mobile phones.
In addition to electronic gadgets and vehicles, operatives also confiscated a number of ritual-related objects. Among them were three calabashes decorated with feathers, a locally produced bar of soap and sponge, a bottle of liquor, 20 cowries, a waist bead, and four pairs of women’s underwear.
The EFCC stated that investigations are currently ongoing, and the suspects will be prosecuted once inquiries are concluded.
