Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, Ikoyi, have commenced an investigation into a suspect, a fake lawyer, John Anoruo, over alleged possession and use of a forged seal of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
Anoruo, who reportedly operates a legal and educational consultancy in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, was arrested on Monday, April 20, 2026.
According to the EFCC, the case originated from a petition dated September 22, 2025, which the suspect submitted to the commission on behalf of his clients against the management of Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Limited.
However, investigations by the anti-graft agency revealed that both the petition and a subsequent Letter of Withdrawal dated March 5, 2026, carried a forged NBA seal.
The commission disclosed that Anoruo allegedly admitted to obtaining the forged seal from an undisclosed business centre in Lagos.
Further findings showed that the 55-year-old suspect claimed to have obtained a Law degree in 2018 from the through evening classes, but did not attend the Nigerian Law School, a mandatory requirement for legal practice in Nigeria.
The EFCC stated that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
