Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested six students of Kwara State Polytechnic suspected to be internet fraudsters.

This was made known in a statement made available to newsmen in Ilorin by the Head, Media and Publicity of the Commission, Dele Oyewale, who said the arrest was as a result of a string of operations carried out within two buildings flagged for suspected internet-related fraud at Agbede Community in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The operation, carried out on Wednesday, yielded the arrest of 30 suspected internet fraudsters, six of whom are students of Kwara State Polytechnic. The profiling of the students showed that all six are actively involved in internet fraud.

Eight vehicles suspected to be proceeds of crime were recovered from the suspects, alongside mobile phones and laptops, as the operation was not remotely connected to the Polytechnic.

No entrance was made into the premises of the institution, and there was no disruption of any activities of the school.

The Commission, however, clarified that there was no protest by students of the Polytechnic against the lawful operation of the EFCC, as videos in circulation linking students’ protests with the Commission’s operations are contrived and a misrepresentation of the operation.

The EFCC further assured the public of the professionalism and integrity of its operations, stating that the channels for reporting unethical conduct of staff of the Commission remain open and that it would continue to work in the overall interests of Nigerians.
