Nigeria’s energy sector is taking a decisive step toward its ambitious gas production goals, as the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, held a high-level strategy session with the management of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) in Abuja on Thursday.

The meeting, confirmed in a statement signed by Mohammed Manga, Director of Information and Public Relations, convened senior stakeholders to deliberate on production targets, investment prospects, and ongoing reforms aimed at shaping a more competitive gas industry.

Mr Edun reaffirmed Nigeria’s target of producing 10 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day by 2030. He cited recent milestones, including the Deepwater agreement with TotalEnergies, as evidence of progress and a signal to investors that Nigeria’s energy landscape is evolving.

“The President has stabilised the economy and created new opportunities for both manufacturing and energy. As we implement comprehensive tax reforms, your input will be crucial in shaping a more attractive business environment,” the Minister said.

He assured the gathering that the government’s reform agenda, including the deployment of digital trade systems, will reduce bottlenecks, strengthen oversight, and guarantee fairness. “We want a transparent, technology-driven environment where investors can operate with confidence,” he added.

NLNG Chief Executive Officer, Dr Philip Mshelbila, briefed the Minister on the company’s progress, pointing to a stronger gas supply, enhanced security along the Trans-Niger pipeline, and capacity utilisation now exceeding 70 per cent.

On infrastructure, Dr Mshelbila confirmed significant headway on the Bodo-Bonny Road and called for the expansion of the East-West Highway under the tax credit programme to support logistics and economic growth in the Niger Delta region.

The session signals renewed momentum for Nigeria’s energy sector, underscoring the administration’s determination to unlock the nation’s vast gas reserves and drive long-term economic transformation under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
