The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) has declared the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the outright winners of all 18 local government chairmanship positions and all 192 ward councillorship seats following the elections held across the state on Saturday.

The Chairman of EDSIEC, Mr. Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, announced the clean sweep during a press conference on Sunday in Benin City.

He confirmed that the election was successfully executed across every local government area and ward, with accreditation, voting, sorting, counting, collation, and the final declarations all carried out in strict accordance with the Edo State Local Government Electoral Law 2022, as amended in 2026.

According to Aifuobhokhan, the official results were finalized after the duly appointed ward and local government returning officers concluded the collation processes within their respective jurisdictions and formally announced the outcomes that cemented the APC’s total victory.

Expressing his satisfaction with the overall conduct of the polls, the commission chairman commended the returning officers for executing their statutory duties with professionalism, impartiality, and legal compliance.

He noted that the elections progressed peacefully throughout the state, reassuring the public that the minor operational hitches recorded in a few isolated areas did not fundamentally impact or compromise the integrity of the exercise.

Looking ahead, Aifuobhokhan emphasized that EDSIEC remains dedicated to refining its electoral practices through systematic periodic reviews and ongoing discussions with relevant stakeholders.

He also advised any aggrieved candidates or political parties to pursue their grievances through the established legal channels provided under Nigerian law.

The EDSIEC boss further extended his appreciation to the political parties, traditional rulers, religious groups, civil society organizations, and the general electorate for maintaining an orderly environment during the voting process.

He concluded by announcing that the newly elected chairmen and councillors would receive their official certificates of return on Monday, July 13, 2026.
