Renowned Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has urged women across the nation to remain resilient, believe in their intrinsic value, and build robust support systems to navigate life’s challenges.
Speaking shortly after her official induction into Rotary International during the 2026 Women in Rotary Conference and Exhibition, the veteran actress emphasized that self-love and community backing are the ultimate tools for female empowerment.
“My message to every woman out there is that you have to stay strong and believe in yourself. You must have that support system that backup system. Joining Rotary is a great step because it helps you find a body that can help you stand on your feet. Don’t ever look down on yourself; learn to take risks and know that you are beautiful. Loving yourself is very important,” she said.
The induction ceremony, conducted by leaders of Rotary District 9111 at the Rotary Centre in Ikeja GRA, served as a highlight of the conference.
Ojo expressed her gratitude for the honor, describing the organization as a beautiful platform for networking and humanitarian service.
She likened the act of members helping one another stay strong to preaching the gospel, noting that the immense potential of women must be continually amplified through such leadership platforms.
District Governor Prince Henry Akinyele explained that the conference was specifically convened to celebrate the leadership and contributions of women within the organization.
He described women as invaluable assets whose participation brings a unique dynamism and creativity to leadership roles.
According to Akinyele, women in District 9111 have performed exceedingly well as committee heads, injecting significant vibrancy and energy into the district’s humanitarian missions.
The event also featured a powerful address by the Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Bolaji Cecilia Dada, who highlighted the critical link between financial independence for women and national development.
She argued that empowering a woman is equivalent to building an entire nation, as women bring a sense of peace and stability to any environment they occupy.
Drawing from her experience in public office, Dada described Rotary as a movement that translates compassion into tangible impact, providing a wider platform to serve humanity beyond status or titles.
The conference concluded with various panel discussions and engaging sessions focused on inclusivity and accountability.
To wrap up the event, awards were presented to several distinguished speakers and members in recognition of their exceptional service and commitment to leadership.
