Funso Doherty, the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 Lagos State election, has formally accepted the party’s nomination, pledging to provide inclusive leadership and deliver a better future for residents of the state.

In his statement on Friday, Doherty thanked the party for the confidence reposed in him, describing his nomination as a responsibility he accepted with humility and a clear sense of purpose.

“I am deeply grateful for the confidence our great party has placed in me and for our shared belief that Lagos deserves much better inclusive leadership that works for everyone,” he said.

He said his emergence as the party’s flagbearer marks the beginning of the campaign to build a more inclusive Lagos.

“The real work begins now. Together, we will build the Lagos that we know is possible,” he stated.

Doherty joined the NDC in May after leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing internal challenges within his former party.

His acceptance of the governorship ticket officially positions him in the race for the 2027 Lagos governorship election.
