Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on Monday, June 16, flagged off his statewide ‘Thank You’ tour in Twon-Brass, where he applauded the people of Brass Local Government Area (LGA) for their unwavering support during the last governorship election.
During the ‘Thank You’ tour flag off to Twon-Brass, the council headquarters, Diri also reaffirmed his commitment to completing the vital Nembe-Brass road project.
He praised residents for standing firm in defence of democracy despite alleged attempts to manipulate the electoral process in the area.
He said:”We came here to appreciate you, for standing firm by us even when the manipulation (of results) started. You didn’t mind whether I was APC or PDP, you just wanted the right thing to be done. I’m here to thank and commend you for your courage in defense of our democracy and for insisting that your votes must count to ensure that your performing government of prosperity continues.”
Governor Diri, who accessed Brass Island via the Kiberi river along the ongoing Nembe-Brass road corridor, reassured residents of his administration’s commitment to completing the crucial road project, which is expected to improve connectivity and economic activity in the coastal communities.
Earlier, the governor paid a courtesy visit to the palace of His Royal Majesty, King Diete Spiff, the Natural Ruler of Twon-Brass where the monarch warmly received the governor and his entourage, describing Diri as “one of our own.”
The visit culminated in a rally at the new pavilion in Twon-Brass, where a large crowd of supporters gathered to receive the governor. Diri used the occasion to promise more developmental projects for the area under his Prosperity Administration.
Accompanying the governor were his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo; Senator Benson Agadaga (Bayelsa East); Senator Friday Konbowei Benson (Bayelsa Central); Hon. Marie Ebikake (Nembe/Brass Federal Constituency); Hon. Mitema Obordor (Ogbia Federal Constituency); Hon. Oforji Oboku (Yenagoa/Kolokuma/Opokuma Federal Constituency); Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly; members of the State Assembly; commissioners; PDP State Chairman, Chief Solomon Agwana; other party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters.
The tour, which spans from June 16 to 25, is expected to take Governor Diri to all eight local government areas of the state. With Brass LGA visited on the opening day, the next stop is Nembe LGA on June 18, followed by Ogbia (June 19), Southern Ijaw (June 20), Ekeremor (June 21), Sagbama (June 23), Kolokuma/Opokuma (June 24), and Yenagoa (June 25).
