The Osun State Government has clarified that the dilapidated road featured on the front page of Tuesday’s edition of the Tribune newspaper was constructed under the administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, not the current administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
In a statement issued in Osogbo on Tuesday, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Engr. Bashiru Bello, stated that the publication misattributed the project and misidentified its location.
Bello explained that the road in question is situated in Mukoro, Ile-Ife, and not in Modakeke as reported by the newspaper.”The bad road published on the front page of Tribune newspaper today was constructed by the Oyetola administration, not the Adeleke government, and the road is located at Mukoro, Ile-Ife, not Modakeke,” Bello stated.
To support its position, the state government released the location’s GPS coordinates, encouraging members of the public and media organizations to independently verify the site and its history.
Bello further pointed out that road construction projects initiated under Governor Adeleke have not yet reached the lane-marking stage shown in the newspaper’s photograph, dismissing the report as fake news.
“The road initiated by the Adeleke administration has not reached the level of lane marking shown in the published photograph. The publication is therefore simply fake news,” the statement added.
The Ministry of Works noted that the current administration has spent considerable effort repairing substandard infrastructure inherited from the previous government, accusing the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of trying to shift blame for past structural failures onto the Adeleke administration.
“The Adeleke administration has been doing a lot of remediation and corrective work on several projects inherited from the Oyetola administration. The attempt by the Osun APC to push its defects onto the Adeleke government is therefore deceitful,” Bello said, reiterating the call for the public to fact-check the claims.
