The Delta State Police Command has presented cheques totalling N16,679,749.92 to the families of 13 deceased police officers as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Week, reaffirming the Force’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their loved ones.

The presentation, held on Thursday, Apr. 2, 2026, marks the culmination of week-long activities within the state ahead of the grand finale scheduled to hold at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking during the presentation, Commissioner of Police Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, described the occasion as both solemn and significant, saying it reflects the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to standing by the families of those who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.

“The sacrifices of fallen officers remain invaluable and will never be forgotten,” Oyeniyi said, urging the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the support provided and assuring them that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to stand by them.

He further assured the 13 beneficiary families that the Force remains committed to their welfare beyond the immediate gesture, noting that the presentation is part of a broader institutional effort to honour officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

In a vote of appreciation, beneficiary Ahanuwa Raphael, who spoke on behalf of the other recipients, expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police and the Delta State Police Command for the support extended to them.

Raphael noted that the gesture would go a long way in assisting the affected families, and prayed for continued strength and success for the Nigeria Police Force.

The 2026 National Police Week has brought together police commands across the country in a series of events designed to honour fallen heroes, celebrate service, and reaffirm the Force’s bond with the communities it serves.

The Delta State Command’s presentation stands as one of the most tangible expressions of that commitment, translating institutional goodwill into direct support for families navigating loss.
