The Delta State Police Command has commenced a statewide enforcement exercise against vehicles operating without registration number plates or with concealed, altered, defaced, or unreadable plates.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, who said the exercise followed a directive from the Inspector-General of Police.
According to the Command, the enforcement drive is aimed at improving public safety and strengthening law enforcement’s ability to identify vehicles, prevent crime, and apprehend offenders across the state.
The police noted that vehicles operating without registration plates or with deliberately obscured numbers pose serious security threats, as they are difficult to trace and can be used by criminal elements to evade detection.
The Command therefore advised all vehicle owners and operators to ensure their vehicles are properly registered and that their number plates remain clearly visible at all times warning that any vehicle found without approved registration plates or with tampered registration details would be stopped, impounded, and subjected to appropriate legal processes in line with existing laws.
Oyeniyi also tasked the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations with coordinating, supervising, and monitoring the exercise to ensure professionalism, uniformity, and effective implementation.
The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that it would continue to deploy proactive security measures to maintain law and order across the state.
