A night of terror in Kwara State has left over 160 people feared dead following a brutal coordinated assault on Woro and Nuku villages by suspected jihadists.

The attackers, identified by local sources as members of the Lakurawa group linked to the Islamic State, reportedly moved house-to-house under the cover of darkness, shooting residents and setting dwellings ablaze.

The massacre has left a trail of missing persons, including the family of Mariamo Adeyemi, a local trader who vanished alongside her two children during the chaos.

In a chilling revelation, community members noted that several of the gunmen appeared to be “familiar faces” who had previously patronized local businesses, suggesting the group had successfully infiltrated the area before the attack.

As security forces deploy to the region, displaced villagers remain in the bush, searching for unaccounted relatives and preparing for mass burials in what is being described as one of the deadliest strikes in the state’s recent history.
