The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi Salihu, as the winner of the state’s governorship primary.
The Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee for Kwara State, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, made this known while addressing journalists at the Banquet Hall opposite the Government House in Ilorin late Friday night.
He stated that Yakubu clinched the governorship ticket for the party after polling 94,990 votes, which was the highest number of votes cast.
Obanikoro expressed delight with the conduct of the aspirants during the politicking leading up to the primaries.
He explained that the postponement of the primary election to Friday was due to logistics, and he thanked party members for turning out en masse to vote for their preferred candidate.
He maintained that within the APC, there is no winner or loser in a contest, pointing out that the competition was within the APC family.
He also enjoined other aspirants to rally around the winner to ensure the party’s success in the 2027 general elections.
Earlier, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, said it was a day of joy for all Kwarans and party members.
He added that God has been very magnanimous to them following the peaceful and rancor-free conclusion of the State and National Assembly primaries.
Fagbemi noted that the committee sent to the state carried out its assignment professionally.
He urged party members, supporters, and residents of the state to maintain the peaceful disposition that Kwara is known for.
