Dangote Sugar doubles down on local production

24 Mar 2026

Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc has placed its ambitious local production and sustainability goals at the forefront of its latest corporate actions and Nigerian Code of Corporate Governance (NCCG) annual filing.

Released on the NGX doc-library in March 2026, the submission goes beyond standard compliance with the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) to spotlight the aggressive expansion of the company’s Backward Integration Project (BIP).

The core of the filing reveals a strategic doubling down on greenfield and brownfield agricultural investments across Taraba, Adamawa, and Nasarawa states.

The corporate action details underscore a concerted push to hit the target of producing 1.5 million metric tonnes of sugar annually entirely from locally cultivated sugarcane.

The 2026 filing further highlights significant infrastructural strides, notably the ongoing upgrade of the Numan refinery. This specific facility enhancement is positioned not just for sugar output, but as a broader sustainability play, designed to generate 32 megawatts of electricity while facilitating the auxiliary production of ethanol and animal feed to actively reduce the company’s greenhouse gas emissions.
