The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Katsina Area Command, has stepped up efforts to curb smuggling activities, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening border security and enforcing fiscal policies.
This assurance was given during an operational visit to Babban Mutum Border Station on April 10, 2026, by the Customs Area Controller, Mohd Saidu.
Represented by the Deputy Comptroller of Customs in charge of Enforcement, Sanusi Abdullahi, the Controller emphasised the Command’s resolve to combat illicit trade and safeguard the nation’s economy.
He warned that smugglers would face stiff consequences, noting that the Command would not relent in apprehending and prosecuting offenders.
Abdullahi described Babban Mutum as a strategic border post that would continue to witness increased surveillance and targeted enforcement operations to check illegal cross-border activities.
He also commended officers at the station for their vigilance and professionalism, urging them to maintain the tempo and uphold the core values of integrity, discipline, and dedication.
Meanwhile, community leaders, including the Chairman of the Babban Mutum Border Association and the District Head, lauded the Command’s proactive measures and pledged their support in tackling smuggling.
They stressed the need for sustained public enlightenment campaigns to discourage involvement in illicit trade and other cross-border crimes.
The Command reiterated its commitment to working closely with host communities and relevant stakeholders to strengthen border management and ensure compliance with trade regulations.
