There was pandemonium on Sunday morning at St. David Anglican Church, Ibulesoro, in Ondo State, as church activities were abruptly disrupted by aggrieved members demanding the removal of the church’s Vicar, Rev. Aanu Adebanjo.
The protest occurred during the Palm Sunday service, throwing the church premises into confusion as members openly expressed dissatisfaction with the leadership of the cleric.
The protesting members accused Rev. Adebanjo of alleged financial mismanagement and claimed he awarded contracts without the knowledge or approval of the church committee. According to them, the situation has generated tension within the congregation in recent weeks.
Some members disclosed that the matter had earlier been reported to the Bishop of the Akure Diocese, whom they accused of failing to take prompt action.
The aggrieved congregants insisted they would not allow church activities to continue until the Archbishop intervenes and facilitates the immediate transfer of the embattled Vicar.
They further alleged that the Archbishop was deliberately delaying the process, a development they said compelled them to stage the protest.
As of the time of filing this report, the church leadership had yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations or the disruption of the Palm Sunday service.
