Court strikes out case of causing grievous hurt against 3 men

A Magistrates’ Court in Life Camp, Abuja on Wednesday, struck out a case of causing grievous hurt filed against three men.

Magistrate Best Ojukwu, discharged Idris Isah, Janaidu Suleman, and Sani Adamu of voluntarily causing grievous hurt and theft following their agreement to a settlement.

The complainant and defendants were all present in court.

“Having heard the defendants and complainant side of the story, both parties agreed to a payment of N70,000 to the complianant, and a written undertaking by the defendants, the case is hereby struck out,” she said.

Following the settlement, the court struck out the First Information Report (FIR) against the defendants, and warned them to desist from committing any criminal act in the future.

The Prosecution Counsel, Charity Nwachukwu, said that on June 26,  Mr Okon Archibong of the same address, filed a complain against the defendants at the  Jabi Police Station.

Nwachukwu said that the defendants attacked thec complainant with a log over a minor incident and inflicted injuries on him.

The prosecutor told the court that the complainant stabbed the second defendant (Suleman) on his right hand with a key holder knife in self-defence.

She said during the fight the complainant’s Samsung phone was stolen.

The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the defendants gave confessional statements admitting to the crimes.

The offence, the police said, contravened the provisions of sections 243 and 287 of the Penal Code Law.
