Dutse Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja has convicted Dennis Daniel, 20, and sentenced him to one month community service for stealing church property worth N2.1 million.
Senior Magistrate Umar Dodo convicted and sentenced Daniel after he pleaded guilty to charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, defiling a place of worship, criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The prosecutor, Mr Otobha Okpa, told the court that Daniel committed the offences between May 30 and Aug. 6 at Nehemiah International Gospel Ministry, Byazhin, Kubwa, Abuja.
Okpa alleged that Daniel and one Godday Loyu, who is still at large, conspired to steal electronic items belonging to the church and Prophet Kelvin Borngreat.
He said the stolen items were valued at N2.1 million.
The prosecutor said Borngreat reported the matter at the Byazhin Divisional Police Headquarters on Aug. 6.
He said Daniel and Loyu were entrusted with securing the church but allegedly abused the trust reposed in them.
Okpa said police recovered the stolen items during investigation and released them to Borngreat on bond.
He added that Daniel confessed to committing the offences during police investigation.
The prosecutor said the offences contravene Sections 97, 211, 312 and 322 of the Penal Code Law.
