A Kaduna State High Court has convicted and sentenced a fraudster, Faruk Suleiman Ololade, also known as Caesar Smith, to three years’ imprisonment for impersonation and attempted fraud.

The conviction was delivered by Jaafaru Zubairu, who found the defendant guilty on a one-count charge bordering on impersonation, brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to the charge, Ololade, on February 12, 2026, in Kaduna, impersonated an Australian identified as Caesar Smith on Facebook with the intent to defraud unsuspecting members of the public. The offence contravenes Section 142(1) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge. Following his plea, prosecution counsel, Moses Arumemi, urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.

Justice Zubairu subsequently sentenced Ololade to three years’ imprisonment, with an option of a ₦300,000 fine. The court also ordered the forfeiture of his Redmi 15C mobile phone, identified as the instrument used in committing the crime, to the Federal Government.

Ololade was arrested by operatives of the EFCC following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected internet fraudsters operating around Turaki Signboard in the Agwa area of Kaduna State.

The EFCC reiterated its commitment to combating cybercrime and other forms of financial fraud across the country.
