A Life Camp Magistrates’ Court in Abuja, on Tuesday remanded a 37-year-old cleaner, Tina Inuwa, for allegedly stealing his employer’s gold jewellery worth N3 million.
The Magistrate, Hauwa Aboki, ordered that the defendant should be remanded in Keffi correctional centre, Nasarawa State, pending formal bail application.
Aboki adjourned the case until Oct. 13 for hearing.
The police charged Inuwa, who lives in Kabusa, Abuja with theft,
Inuwa however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mrs Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Mrs Hauwa Ganzama reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on Sept. 4.
Nwachukwu said the defendant, was employed as a domestic staff in the Complainant’s house.
She said on Sept.1, the defendant stole two sets of gold earrings, a pendant and a gold chain, all worth N3million from the complainant’s bedroom.
The prosecutor told the court that during police investigation, the defendant confessed to having taken the jewellery.
Nwachukwu informed the court that all effort made to recovery the stolen items failed.
She said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 289 of the Penal Code.
