A Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, has remanded a 38-year-old man, Olusola Busayo, in custody over the alleged rape of a woman with special needs.
The Osun State Police Command arraigned the suspect on Tuesday on a one-count charge bordering on rape.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Adejola Adesuyi, told the court that the defendant unlawfully had carnal knowledge of the victim.
He stated that the offense contravenes and is punishable under Section 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Defense counsel, Kehinde Adepoju, applied for the defendant’s bail. However, the prosecutor opposed the application, arguing that if the victim continues to see the defendant, it could reignite her trauma and worsen the injury she allegedly suffered.
The presiding Chief Magistrate, O.A. Daramola, ordered the defendant to be remanded at the Ilesha Correctional Centre.
The case was adjourned until February 27, 2026, for mention.
