A 26-year-old labourer, Sani Idris, has been arraigned before a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly stealing N163,000 in cash, two ATM cards, and mobile gadgets.

Idris, who resides in Kado Bimko, Gwarinpa, Abuja, is facing charges of joint act, shop-breaking, and theft. He pleaded not guilty to all counts.

Prosecution counsel, Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Rayyanu Umar, reported the incident at Gwarinpa Police Station on July 4. Idris and an accomplice, identified only as Walid and currently at large, were alleged to have broken into Umar’s shop near Jummat Mosque, Kado Bimko, without permission.

The suspects reportedly made away with N163,000, an FCMB ATM card, and a GTBank ATM card. They also allegedly stole a Samsung A50 phone and a power bank valued at N102,000, belonging to Umar’s friend, Mamman Abdullahi.

According to the prosecution, Idris was later apprehended by the complainant and handed over to the police. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to the crime and could not provide a satisfactory account of the stolen items.

The offences contravene Sections 79, 353, and 288 of the Penal Code Law.

Chief Magistrate Musa Jobbo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction. The case was adjourned to August 10 for hearing.
