The contractor handling Senator Gbenga Daniel’s proposed 260-metre road in Sagamu, Minim and Tonye, has formally accepted the engineering specifications and recommendations of the Ogun State Government for the construction of the Paddy Arikawe Igbimo Road.
In a letter dated Friday, 26th September 2025, and signed by its Director, Abimbola Ayodeji, the firm confirmed its readiness to adopt the designs approved by the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.
The letter, addressed to the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr Ade Akinsanya, stated that the executing agency, the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA), had directed the company to commence the drainage works using the specifications provided by the ministry.
According to the letter, the contractor agreed that the drainage dimension shall be 600mm x 600mm reinforced concrete drains with Grade 25 concrete to ensure uniformity with existing drainage structures in the area.
The acceptance follows a directive from the Ogun State Ministry of Works, dated 22nd September 2025, which pointed out that the initial designs submitted by the contractor did not meet the standard specifications of the Federal Ministry of Works (FMW).
The ministry therefore halted further work until the necessary corrections were made and approval granted.
The Ogun State Government, while acknowledging the contractor’s compliance, reiterated that the project must strictly adhere to its technical requirements.
Among these are the use of Grade 20 concrete for binding, Grade 25 concrete for reinforced concrete base and deck, and a high-yield tensile strength of not less than 460 N/mm².
The Ministry further specified that the pavement should be 220mm thick reinforced concrete of not less than Grade 35, preferably Grade 40, instead of the earlier proposed 150mm thick Grade 20 concrete pavement.
Other requirements include increasing the stone base thickness to 200mm, providing a full layout with elevations and grades, including reinforcement details at the joints, and submitting a comprehensive list of engineering materials alongside quality assurance tests and design codes.
