The Pastor of Jesus the Most High Church, Ilorin, Mr Oluwaseun Shedrach, has urged parents to take full responsibility for the upbringing of their children.
Shedrach gave the advice during an interview on Saturday in Ilorin, saying this would curb rising societal decadence.
He warned against leaving the task entirely to domestic workers, noting that many parents were often too preoccupied with career pursuits.
The cleric observed that such neglect left little or no time for parents to attend to their children’s moral and emotional development.
According to him, parents who neglect their primary duties risk raising children without proper home training, guidance and required societal discipline.
”Every parent has a critical role to play in nurturing and guiding their children to ensure they receive proper training,” the cleric said.
He noted that children deprived of parental attention and moral guidance often drift into delinquent behaviour and other societal vices.
Shedrach added that proper home training remained the foundation of a disciplined society.
”Stop claiming to be too busy at the expense of your children. Create time, listen to them and teach them sound moral principles.
”Domestic workers are only meant to assist with household chores and not to replace parents in raising children,” Shedrach said.
The cleric also advised parents, particularly mothers, not to prioritise social engagements over the welfare and overall upbringing of their children.
He also urged parents to remain available to their children, providing the necessary care, attention and guidance needed for proper development.
