The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) has commissioned a 160-seater training hall at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu, to serve as a hub for grooming chartered bankers and strengthening industry-academia collaboration.
Speaking at the inauguration on Tuesday, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu represented by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Sule urged professional bodies and institutions to partner with government in shaping a stronger, competitive educational future for the state.
Sanwo Olu said the facility, named “The CIBN Bankers Hall,” would not only host academic discourse and seminars but also nurture a new generation of globally competitive financial professionals. He described the project as a model of impactful corporate social responsibility, aligning with his administration’s vision to redefine tertiary education.
CIBN President and Chairman of Council, Prof. Pius Olanrewaju, said the hall is the 13th Bankers Hall established by the institute nationwide in the past five years, reflecting its commitment to bridging the gap between academic theory and practical banking skills.
LASUSTECH Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, hailed the project as a shining example of academia–industry partnership, stressing that it supports his drive to make the university globally competitive in emerging areas such as cryptocurrency and digital assets.
The ceremony also featured the signing of an agreement to integrate LASUSTECH students as chartered bankers upon graduation.
Students expressed excitement over the facility, with Miss Vivian James describing it as a conducive environment to raise future leaders while urging CIBN to sustain its investment in education.
Government officials, bankers, academics, and students attended the inauguration at the LASUSTECH campus.
