Former Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi has decried the abduction of school children across the country.
In a statement on Wednesday, Obi expressed concern over the protracted captivity of numerous Nigerian students, noting that the prolonged inability to secure their release remains a significant institutional failure.
While acknowledging the resilience of Nigerian youth, the former governor emphasized that official celebrations are severely undermined by the reality of children remaining in insurgent custody for extended periods.
He described the situation as a profound national failure, emphasizing that the primary responsibility of any sovereign state is the protection of its most vulnerable citizens.
Obi noted that a nation unable to guarantee the safety of its youth lacks moral leverage within the global community.
He drew attention to the psychological and social toll inflicted on families, contrasting the societal tendency to resume normalcy with the ongoing trauma of families whose children remain held in remote forest camps.
