Chevron Nigeria Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding investments in Nigeria and other African markets, with gas, deepwater oil and integrated infrastructure identified as key areas of focus.

The company’s General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Olusoga Oduselu, disclosed this on Monday in Lagos during a media capacity-building programme organised for members of the Nigerian Association of Energy Correspondents.

Oduselu said Nigeria remained an important market for Chevron, noting that the company’s activities were focused on supporting energy security while contributing to the country’s economic development.

“Chevron sees Nigeria and Africa as core growth markets, with investments in gas, deepwater oil, and integrated infrastructure.”

He said the company would continue to pursue opportunities in exploration, asset development and gas monetisation.

According to him, Chevron’s investment plans include activities around its Nigeria joint venture and deepwater infill drilling, as well as developments linked to the Meji-1 and Awodi-7 discoveries.

He also identified exploration and gas monetisation opportunities in Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon as part of the company’s broader interests in the African energy market.

Oduselu said gas development remained an important part of Chevron’s long-term strategy, particularly as African countries seek to expand access to energy while working towards cleaner energy systems.

He said the company was committed to supporting gas development in line with national gas-transition policies across sub-Saharan Africa.

The Chevron executive also highlighted the importance of regional energy infrastructure, particularly the West African Gas Pipeline.

According to him, the pipeline, which transports gas from Nigeria through Benin and Togo to Ghana, remains an important component of regional energy integration and gas supply.

Speaking on Chevron’s role in Nigeria’s energy sector, Oduselu said the company remained focused on delivering reliable and affordable energy while paying attention to environmental concerns.

“As a major energy producer, Chevron is focused on safely delivering the affordable, reliable, and ever-cleaner energy needed to power progress. We remain a leading contributor to Nigeria’s domestic gas supply and continue to invest in projects that support energy security, lower emissions, and reduce gas flaring,” he revealed.

He added that Chevron’s operations were guided by operational excellence, innovation, partnerships and responsible business practices.

Oduselu further noted that the company was focused on creating value for its stakeholders while supporting Nigeria’s economic and social development.

On the company’s commitment to host communities, he revealed that the company has adopted various initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable development in areas where it operates.

“We are working with relevant government and community stakeholders to transition to Host Community Development Trusts under the Petroleum Industry Act.”

“We are equally committed to sustainable community development. We also contribute to the sustainable development of communities where we operate. The Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU), a community-led participatory partnership model for community engagement and sustainable development was pioneered by CNL in 2005,” he said.
