The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) have formalised plans to collaborate on enhancing the nationwide implementation of the Employee Compensation Scheme (ECS).
This development emerged on Tuesday in Abuja during a courtesy visit by the Managing Director and Chief Executive of NSITF, Mr Oluwaseun Mayomi Faleye, to the Registrar-General and Chief Executive Officer of the CAC, Mr Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN.
Speaking on the purpose of the visit, Faleye requested the CAC’s assistance in expanding the coverage of the ECS, improving employer compliance, and streamlining the registration of employees under the scheme. He described the CAC, which maintains the national database of registered companies, as a critical partner in achieving these objectives.
He noted that limited access to accurate, up-to-date data on registered businesses and their operational status had hindered the NSITF’s efforts in tracking compliance and monitoring employer obligations.
Faleye expressed confidence that a formal partnership with the CAC would bridge the existing information gaps in employer identification, classification, and compliance oversight.
In response, the CAC Registrar-General, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN, welcomed the proposed collaboration and assured the NSITF of the Commission’s willingness to provide access to relevant business registration data to support the Fund’s mandate.
Magaji also pledged the CAC’s cooperation on public enlightenment campaigns, stakeholder sensitisation initiatives, and staff capacity-building exercises in line with the NSITF Establishment Act.
“As a responsible government agency, the CAC has always complied with the provisions of the Employees’ Compensation Act (2010), and we are committed to strengthening inter-agency collaboration in the interest of workers’ welfare,” Magaji stated.
The NSITF is mandated under the Employees’ Compensation Act to provide financial compensation to employees who suffer occupational injuries, diseases, disabilities, or death during the course of their employment.
The meeting concluded with a ceremonial exchange of gifts between the heads of the two agencies, symbolising their renewed commitment to cooperation.
